  • Prof. Sanitya Kalika is an Assistant Professor at Jindal Global Law School. He attended Nepal Law Campus, Tribhuvan University for his undergraduate studies in arts and laws, graduating in First Division. He then attended the University of Michigan Law School for his LL.M., for which he was awarded a full-ride Michigan Grotius Fellowship covering his full tuition and entire living expenses. At Michigan Law School, Professor Kalika specialized in international law, and was a Notes Editor of the Michigan Journal of International Law.

    Prior to transitioning into full-time academia, Prof. Kalika practiced law in Nepal as an Advocate and worked in international aviation, arbitration, human rights, and commercial laws. He was a key part of a team that represented victims of the largest aviation disaster in Nepal in 30 years in a fatal aviation accident compensation claims matter, resulting in multi-million-dollar settlement offers. He also worked as a consultant with UNHR-Geneva, advising the Eritrean delegation to the United Nations in matters relating to UN Human Rights Council. He has collaborated with various governmental and non-governmental instrumentalities in matters concerning international law, commercial law, human rights, and community lawyering.

    Apart from receiving his legal education in Nepal and the United States, Prof. Kalika has attended summer schools at the University of Oslo, and at Viadrina European University, as a DAAD Scholar. Upon being qualified as an Advocate, he was awarded by the Rt. Hon’ble Chief Justice of Nepal for his top performance in Nepal’s nationwide Bar exams conducted by Nepal Bar Council. As a law student, he had represented Nepal in various international moot court competitions and bagged several awards. Prof. Kalika earlier taught international law as a Visiting Lecturer at Lumbini Buddhist University. His research interests lie at the intersection(s) of international law and international relations, and in international business law, human rights, aviation law, and international disputes settlement.
