Krishnan, Preethi

Preethi Krishnan is an Associate Professor at Jindal Global Law School at O.P. Jindal Global University. I received my PhD in Sociology from Purdue University in 2019. After receiving myPhD., I was an Assistant Professor at Western Carolina University.

My research interests include social inequality (particularly intersections of gender, caste, and class), state, social movements, development, and globalization. My dissertation project examines the state's role in how people negotiate inequality. In particular, I study how state policies influence the frames people use to interpret unequal access to food and care and how those frames challenge or adapt to inequality.

In my research, I am interested in two main themes related to social change.

First, I am keen to understand the challenges and opportunities for people striving for progressive change, especially in their engagement with state institutions.

Second, I explore how macro-level processes and policies affect local development in societies that are embedded in unequal social relations of gender, caste, and class.

Teaching in an age of information surplus gives me the opportunity to use the time and space in the classroom to focus on developing critical analysis skills and a sociological imagination among my students.

Overall, in my teaching instruction and pedagogy, I help students view the world they occupy locally and globally by utilizing a sociological lenss.
