  • Prof. Ayushi Agarwal obtained a B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) degree from National Law School of India University, Bangalore in 2018. She was awarded gold medals for being the best all-round graduating student, for securing overall third rank and for the best project in corporate law. While at NLSIU, she founded the University’s Feminist Alliance, served as the Editor of Socio-Legal Review as well as Chief Editor of Indian Journal of International Economic Law, and was the Teaching Assistant for the Legal Methods course. Ayushi also took a keen interest in mooting, winning several Best Speaker and Best Team awards; most notably, the award for the Best Defense Case at the 13th International Criminal Court Moot Court Competition, The Hague in 2017.

    She subsequently read for the BCL at Oxford as a Weidenfeld-Hoffmann scholar with full funding, and received a Merit on her degree. She pursued the interests she developed during her undergraduate studies by taking up Comparative Human Rights, Comparative Equality Law, Medical Law & Ethics and International Law and Armed Conflict. She also represented Oxford University at the 11th Nelson Mandela Moot Court Competition at Palais Des Nations, Geneva, where her team was declared the overall winners.

    Before joining JGLS, Ayushi was a fellow at DeJusticia in Bogota, Colombia, selected through the Oxford Bonavero Institute of Human Rights Fellowship Programme, and worked on a project to improve Colombian Afro-communities’ access to justice

research overview

  • Ayushi is most interested in international human rights law, medical ethics and discrimination theory, and hopes to pursue them further during her time at JGLS.
