Malika has secured her Bachelor’s in Law from the University of Kashmir where she was awarded a gold medal for her academic excellence. She went on to join Ashoka University’s Young India Fellowship on HT Parekh Scholarship. She was also a recipient of the prestigious Chevening scholarship offered by the British Foreign and Commonwealth office for her Master’s in Human Rights Law at UCL, London.
She has an interest in women and child rights and has worked with some of the leading organisations in India. Between 2018-19, she was working with Integrated Child Protection Services, Government of Jammu & Kashmir and Save the Children towards a better implementation of the Juvenile Justice Act in the region. Prior to that, she has also worked with the Research Cell of the All India Congress Committee between 2015-16. She has also worked with the Union Ministry of Law and Justice to analyse the implementation of several social welfare schemes for old women and widows in the Kashmir province. She has also volunteered with Delhi and Srinagar based NGOs where she was teaching young school children.
Apart from law, she enjoys working with local Kashmiri women to recreate local Kashmiri skincare products
