overview

  • Apart from serving as a law teacher, Sandeep is currently a doctoral candidate at Jindal Global Law School (JGLS). He pursued LLB from NLU, Jodhpur (2015). Later, he was awarded the Master’s Excellence Scholarship to earn his LLM from CEU, Budapest (2017). In the Fall term at CEU, he won the best academic performance award as well as finished the course ranking only second in his batch. Besides, he wrote his LLM Short Thesis on the idea of voting as a duty-right which received the highest grade.

Before travelling to Budapest, Sandeep worked as a Litigation and Research Associate at the Centre for Law and Policy Research, Bangalore (2015). There, he assisted senior lawyers in litigations before the High Court, district civil courts and consumer forums apart from advising clients about constitutional and legal issues pertaining to the Karnataka Preservation of Trees Act 1976 and the Biological Diversity Act 2002. Besides, he worked on several research projects concerning prosecution and trial of sexual offences, disability rights, right to education, and Constituent Assembly debates. After this stint, Sandeep briefly served as a Research Consultant with Daksh, Bangalore (2016). In this capacity, he worked on projects relating to access to justice and judicial administration and pendency issues.

Now as a law teacher at JGLS, Sandeep teaches courses within the domain of public law like electoral democracy, comparative public law, legal methods and judicial process, and criminal procedure. As a teacher, he believes in improving accessibility of teachers be it by providing sufficient time for meeting students outside the class hours and facilitating other opportunities to address their clarifications. Towards that goal of improving students’ access to clearer explanations of the law, Sandeep produces video essays on his YouTube channel (since Jan 2020). Presently, his channel hosts more than 20 such video essays explaining the finer nuances of relevant legal issues for the benefit of students even outside JGLS.

Beyond his primary teaching responsibilities, Sandeep has served the JGLS administration largely throughout his tenure. In the past he was the Assistant Dean in the Office of Student Affairs & Initiatives (2021-22), Assistant Dean in the Academic Affairs Office (2020-21), Assistant Director of JGLS Legal Aid Clinic (2019-21), and Faculty Coordinator of international collaborations (2018-19) of JGLS. At the Legal Aid Clinic, he worked with the clinic members to help victims of crimes in the local vicinity to approach the Police and file FIRs, strategized prison reform initiatives and RTI applications to hold authorities accountable with respect to implementation of the right to education.
